Ashley Redmond Joins Roper St. Francis Staff

Roper St. Francis Healthcare is pleased to announce that Ashley W. Redmond, MPH has joined the staff. Redmond has been named Manager of the Ryan White HIV Care Management Program, a federally funded program that helps coordinate comprehensive medical care for people living with HIV.

Redmond holds a Master’s of Science degree in Public Health from the University of South Carolina, School of Public Health, Health Promotion and Education. As a graduate student, she worked as an assistant with the S. C. State Department of Education’s HIV/AIDS Program. Upon graduation, Redmond served as a Case Manager Supervisor with Lowcountry AIDS Services. In that role, she helped implement state standards for the Ryan White Program.

A native of Charleston, Redmond graduated from Porter-Gaud High School and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of South Carolina where she received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology. Redmond currently resides in West Ashley.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s Ryan White HIV Care Management Program provides a number of services to eligible enrollees. Physician care, including infectious disease, primary care and specialty care, medications, dental care, mental health care, substance abuse treatment, insurance continuation services, case management and pastoral care are available to clients meeting federal income guidelines. All services are provided confidentially. For more information about the program, please call 843-720-8429.

The program is named for Ryan White, who was diagnosed with AIDS at age 13. Ryan contracted HIV through blood-based products used to treat his hemophilia. During the time between his diagnosis in 1984 and his death in 1990, he gained international notoriety fighting for his right to attend school. Ryan was featured on numerous television shows and magazine covers and was the subject of a television movie about his life. He spoke out often and eloquently about the challenges he faced and the need for greater compassion towards people with HIV and AIDS. Despite the ravages of the illness to his body and the discrimination he faced, Ryan remained a positive, healing force throughout his life.

Ryan’s legacy lives on in many ways. The Ryan White CARE Act is a federal program that funds services for over 500,000 people with HIV/AIDS each year.
