ROPER ST. FRANCIS ANNOUNCES PLANS

TO EXPAND AT CARNES CROSSROADS:

Medical Office Building To Be Located in Goose Creek

at Hwy 17 and 176

Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH) officials today announced plans for a new medical facility to be located at Carnes Crossroads at the intersection of Highway 17A and 176 in Berkeley County. RSFH has signed an agreement to purchase 66 acres of land from The Daniel Island Company. Once the purchase is finalized in October, hospital officials say they will begin immediate development of six acres for a medical office building, which will house primary care and specialty physicians as well as diagnostic services including laboratory and imaging. The medical facility will be part of the commercial corridor being developed by The Daniel

Island Company as part of its new 2,300-acre mixed-use planned community, Carnes.

“Goose Creek and the surrounding areas are seeing tremendous growth, and we are excited about bringing healthcare services to people living and working in these communities,” says David L. Dunlap, President and CEO of Roper St. Francis Healthcare.

Hospital officials expect construction to get under way by fall 2008 with the facility projected to open one year later. RSFH officials say that they look forward to the opportunity to grow with the community in the future, and that the remaining 60 acres will be set aside for this purpose.

“This major land purchase signifies our commitment to providing health care services now and for years to come,” said Doug Bowling, Vice President for System Development at RSFH, who adds that community residents and their healthcare needs will be the driving force in making future plans for the site.

A former timber tract with four miles of prime commercial frontage, the Carnes Crossroads property is being developed by The Daniel Island Company as a significant commercial and residential center for Goose Creek and Berkeley County. The master plan for development of the property will incorporate many of the same details and amenities found on Daniel Island and will appeal to both a local and national market. With the development of Daniel Island, the Daniel Island Company has established a national reputation for successfully executing mixed-use development at the highest level and creating value by the synergistic relationship between different uses.

“We’re excited to welcome Roper St. Francis to Carnes Crossroads,” said Matt Sloan, President of The Daniel Island Company. “Our plans call for a diverse range of services, retail businesses, restaurants and conveniences in this area to serve residents in this and surrounding communities. To have this significant healthcare presence early on provides a wonderful foundation as we continue our plans for commercial and residential development.”
