What are Uterine Fibroids

Uterine Fibroids are benign tumors that grow within the muscle tissue of the uterus and affect approximately 20-40% of women 35 years and older. Uterine fibroids can cause symptoms such as excessive bleeding, pain and disfigurement which can persist until menopause if left untreated.

Women with uterine fibroids experience:

  • Heavy or painful periods or bleeding between periods
  • Feeling "full" in the lower abdomen
  • Frequent urination
  • Pain during sex
  • Lower back pain
  • Reproductive problems, such as infertility, multiple miscarriages or early labor
